Okay so I wanted to post my new poem, the first one for awhile.. and just say how much I've been enjoying my fellow Texan friend, Juanita, while being here in Tulum!! Some nights and days the isolation just echoes so loudly around me that I swear I can hear it creaking in my bones... But then I've been lucky to get to go to the beach at night and see billions on top of gazillions of stars and listen to the waves and hear the ocean just flowing and crashing- so naturally- and when i just hang in the hammock I manage to get back to the womb a little- and although the family loneliness is there.. i get my hugs!! (wow- can i say run on sentence?!)... so here's the poem and thank god this monday is over... capoeira tomorrow!! and maybe goin' at it cruda!! :(
Woodshop 101
But what I can explain...
Is how his rough voice scratched against, slid under the door of my heart-
While I was outside pounding to be let in!!
How the wine and his fingers massaging my back were the glowing keys…
How his sandpaper nature left a soft dust of shavings
over my still splintered self…
And oh how the delicious smell of wood scrapings
is such a bittersweet taste as I mix it with rum!!
Y qué rico calienta my sangre under these Mexican full moons.
And I keep smiling- shaking my head, sin entender, happy
… scab torn off, ripped off, scraped off, washed away…
(and sometimes, yes, this slow-healing wound bleeds again…)
And when it rains the copal incense permeates breezes,
And the shaman’s eyes mirror my smile goodbye,
And I light my tiny candle to pray at night,
And I roar laughs,
Kapalabati breathing with
Twanging berimbau of my soul!!
(“Quem não tem o couro grosso nessa roda vai sobrar!!!”)
(“Rejoice!! Chant! A psalm a day! I gotta… Chant! Chant a psalm a day! Chant chant!”)
…….. (reggae dancing, eyes closed)…
…(smiling)….
